Seven U.S. women will be racing in each discipline at Worlds. They include elite cross-country (under 23 XC), junior XC, elite DH, and junior XC. Six men and six women will be selected for the new XC Marathon race.

NORBA employs both discretionary and automatic qualification processes to choose the best riders to represent the United States at the Worlds. A rider must have placed in the top three of the 2002 Worlds, be in the top 20 World Cup standings, and have been in the top ten in a 2003 World Cup or a top ten in the NORBA National Series to automatically qualify.

NORBA will provide financial assistance to athletes who are automatically eligible for the elite men or women XC and espoir XC. The financial aid includes transportation, lodging, meals, and support from the two-day prior to competition to the following day.

The NORBAs coaches will select the remaining athletes at their discretion. If an athlete is not eligible for funding support, or falls outside of the eligibility criteria, they will have to pay their own ticket.

One elite man, one elite woman, one espoir, and one junior man make up the team XC relay. The NORBA coach will select the team at the event.

Mountain Bike Worlds take place in Lugano (Switzerland) from August 30 through September 7. Here’s the team:
